Magway Region is the second largest division of Myanmar, and capital city is Magway city but the largest city of Magway region is Pakokku which is the big rice market of Myanmar. Magway is situated approximately between north latitude 18 50' to 22 47' and east longitude 93 47' to 95 55'. The population of Magway Region is 3912711, mostly are Bamar and some Chin, Rakhine, Karen, and Shan. Most of them are Buddhists and minority religious communities include Christians, Muslims, Hindus and animists. Agriculture is the major occupation therefore it is popular as the big rice market and oil pot of Myanmar for production of high quality rice, sesame and beans. An ancient city and the old Kingdom, Pyu listed by UNESCO recognized as 'the birthplace of humanity in the world' due to the excavation of fossils of the early primates over 40 million years old. Visiting arid areas to learn about ancient heritage and explore the way of life of the local people.

  1. Myatthalwin Pagoda is one of the signature and picturesque heritage pagodas, located at the top of a Mountain north of Magway. It is far 10 mins drive from Magaway city and 2 hours from the old kingdom Bagan. Myatthalwin's 9000 light festival is popular among the local people who come to participate in the lighting and devotee.
  2. Shwe Sett Taw Pagoda is a part of the history of Buddhism and celebrates the pagoda festival from mid-February to mid-April. It is like an oasis in the arid zone for bathing water fresh in Mum creek and exploring heritage sites and experiences and making friends with the local people. And also you can travel to the elephant camp within the wildlife sanctuary. To journey to Shwe Sett Taw, you have to go along Yangon-Pyay road - Pathein-Monywa.
  3. Beikthano is one of the Pyu Ancient Cities (UNESCO Heritage Sites), located 38miles far away from Magway city. Researchers discovered it in 2000 and studied the Pyu kingdom, which flourished for more than 1,000 years between 200 BC and 900 AD.

Magway is the tropical area that is dusty and do not receive mush rainfall. The temperature range between 75 F and 93 F within June and September. The excellent season to visit Magway is October-May, weather is also good and can explore rural area culture and experience local lifestyle through traditional festival.
