Sagaing Region is located in the northwest of Myanmar and is bounded by India to the northwest, Kachin State to the northeast, Mandalay Region to the east, Magway Region to the south, and Sagaing District to the west. The region has an area of 36,527 square kilometers and a population of 4,309,000. Sagaing Region is the most densely populated region in Myanmar. The majority of the population is rural, with only 22% of the population living in urban areas. The region's capital is Sagaing. Sagaing Region is Myanmar's second-largest producer of rice, after Ayeyarwady Region. Other important crops grown in the region include wheat, maize, peanuts, sesame, pulses, and tobacco. Sagaing Region is home to many different ethnic groups, including the Bamar, Shan, Karen, Chin, Kachin, and Indian.

How to get there

Hemmed in by two great rivers of Myanmar, the Irrawaddy and the Chindwin, river transport is a common way to move people and cargo. Much of the inland Sagaing Region relies on roads and rail in poor condition.

Kachin State is a start point (Myit-Son) of the big river Irrawaddy with its two headstreams (N'mai and Mali), the most popular ethnic festival, Manaw festival which is an annual traditional dance celebrated by Kachin people, trekking to the highest mountains cover by snow-capped, Mt Phonyin Razi and Sanctuary wildlife at the largest inland lake in Southeast, Indawgyi Lake.
Located at the sea level of 4,712 feet, Taunggyi is one of the hilly regions and home of numerous ethnics. It is the capital city of Shan State and is famous for its annual fire balloon festival which is held every November about 10 days. Possessing many scenic destinations and having cool weather make the city attractive and diverse. It is also surrounded by many spectacular destinations like Kakku, home of thousand ancient pagodas, Inlay, the region which is famous for picturesque Inle lake, its unique culture and living style, Pindaya, the countryside which is famous for its ancient limestone caves and so on. Moreover, because of colorful dwellers, not only its destination and weather but also various traditional dishes and local foods are the trademark of Taunggyi.
