Introduction of  Dawei

Dawei city is located in Tanintharyi region, in the southern Myanmar (Burma). Dawei is the capital city of Tanintharyi, and it also is ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard Township in 2020. It was formerly known as Tavoy. It is known for its palm trees, mountains, Tenasserim hills, waterfalls, beautiful beaches, hot springs, islands, Dawei culture, museum, beautiful temple, many historical pagodas and its own history. So, it is always full of natural scenery, beautiful destinations, tourists' attractions and it is the best place for natural lovers. The best time to visit Dawei is between October and April. The hot season and the winter are the most sustainable times to visit. But in the rainy season, you can go to waterfalls, in the winter you can go to the mountains in the early morning, hot springs, in the summer you can go to the beaches, islands. In every season, you can visit heritages, historical pagodas and the main pagoda of Shwe Taung Sar pagoda and you can sightsee along the Dawei river in the evening.

Waterfalls in Dawei Myanmar

Dawei peninsula has many waterfalls and the best time to visit them is from June to October. Local people go to the waterfalls on the public holidays and weekends with their friends and family. Some waterfalls have many restaurants so you can eat and relax there. Dawei has many tour operators who offer packages to these waterfalls, so you can join a tour in Dawei. Among the amazing waterfalls, you should visit the following waterfalls in Dawei.

  1. Taw Gel Waterfall, Launglone

Taw Get waterfall is situated on the Dawei-Shin Mon Pagoda Road, Taw Gel village, Launglone township, Dawei district, Tanintharyi. It is approximately 40 Kilometers away from Dawei. It will take you a 1-hour drive from Dawei to Taw Gel waterfall by motorbike or car. It has beautiful nature and some restaurants. You can swim, relax and take photos at Taw Gel Waterfall. You can go trekking to the top of the mountain and rest at the pagoda. There is a three steps waterfall, and you can explore the beautiful scenery. That pagoda is on the top of the waterfall. It has many foreigners here because the fall is on the way to San maria beach and Grandfather beach and situated on the right sights.

  1. Hsin Koe Yap Waterfall, Ye Phyu

Hsin Koe Yap waterfall is situated in Kanbauk village, Ye Phyu township, Dawei, Tanintharyi. You must ride through a winding road to reach the waterfall. It is about 86 Kilometers away from Dawei and you will have to drive about 2 hours.  The fall is situated next to Shin Hsan Daw Shin Pagoda, and you can continue to go to the Hsin Koe Yap waterfall and experience a cool and amazing view.

  1. Kalonehtar Waterfall, Ye Phyu

Kalonehtar waterfall is situated in Kalonehtar village, Ye Phyu Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi region. Kalonehtar is situated 14 miles away from Dawei and it has natural scenery and is surrounded by waterfalls, mountains, rivers, and beautiful streams with breathtaking scenery. You can see the daily lives of rural villages and natural view of Kalonehtar village. Kalonethar also has a CBT site, where travelers can see traditional medicine (herbage) garden, go trekking, eat lunch near the stream, relax at hot springs, visit souvenir shops to buy local products, and drink organic fruit juices at the hot spring.   1. Angel Waterfall, Ye Phyu

Angel waterfall is one of the treasures of Dawei land seen in the rainy season, situated about an hour from Dawei. It is 4 km east of Yangon-Dawei Highway. It is situated in Ye Phyu township, Dawei district, Tanintharyi. It has very beautiful scenery and crystal-clear water and local people are represented as an Angel for the waterfall. The water from this waterfall is used as drinking water for residents. You shouldn't throw away waste disposal and you should care and maintain the beauty of nature. It is perfect to chill for a day trip.

  1. Thayet Chaung Waterfall

Thayet Chaung waterfall is situated in Thayet Chaung township and about 20 km of Myeik - Dawei Road, Dawei District, Tanintharyi. You will have to drive about 1 hour by car or motorbike or tuk tuk. Along the road, you can visit Shin Mote Htee Pagoda and reclining buddha. At the waterfall, you can do walking along the bridge and take photos of the fall which has nice scenery. The water is clear and cool. There are many restaurants, and you can enjoy eating local food. The water from this waterfall is used as household water by joining with a pipeline. It is a great place to visit in Dawei.

  1. Thin Gan Tone waterfall 

Thin Gan Tone waterfall is located 18 miles east of Dawei, Dawei-Myint Tar Road, Thin Gan Tone Village. You can go there by car or motorbike or rent transportation services. It has a gorgeous green hill; beautiful stream and the village is full of beautiful natural environments. At these waterfalls, you can relax and soak in the water with friends and family in the rainy season.

  1. Tizit Waterfall, Launglone

Tizit waterfall is situated in Tizit village, Launglone township, Dawei, Tanintharyi. It is approximately 34 kilometers from Dawei, and you will drive about 1 hour by motorbikes or car. At the waterfall, you can swim and relax with your friends and family. Tizit village is a fisherman village where you can see fishing boats and do many activities. It is surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and beaches. It has two waterfalls, one is situated in front of the village and another one is located at the end of the village, two beaches are Tizit beach and Phoe La Mon beach. You can easily visit Tizit and you can relax, swim, eat fresh seafood and look at the beautiful sunset view at the beach. And also, you can learn about fisherman life, making dried fish and local lifestyle at  Tizit Community Based Tourism (CBT). You surely will get a new experience by joining the Tizit CBT programme.

Dawei's people like the rainy season because four townships have natural waterfalls. So, locals visit the waterfalls, swim and relax with friends or family at the waterfalls as a day trip. Dawei is full of natural scenery, tourist's attractions. It is the best place for nature lovers and famous because of the breathtaking Dawei peninsula. If you reach Dawei from June to September, I want to recommend visiting the waterfalls in Dawei and you can relax with your friends on your travel journey. Tips for visiting to waterfalls in Dawei

Do’s

  • Take an umbrella and wear a raincoat for a trip to the waterfall.
  • Should take snacks and drinking water. Some waterfalls have no restaurant.
  • Should drink alcohol after swimming.
  • Maintain the beauty of the environment by disposing of waste properly.

Don'ts

  • Do not swim after drinking alcohol, it's dangerous, you might drown.
  • Don't throw garbage in a disorderly manner and dispose of it in a designated place.
  • You should return from the waterfall before sunset.
